Timeless star Goran Visnjic says series finale will make for very unconventional television

Never underestimate the power of fans. Their fiery passion can lead to Lazarus-like resurrections of canceled TV shows. They brought back Netflix's Sense8, Fox's Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and NBC's Timeless. Despite the fact that the last one only got a second season before being canceled for good, it will still receive a two-part finale to wrap up the series next month.

Back in September, Timeless co-creator Eric Kripke said that the finale would wrap everything up nicely. Now, one of the show's stars, Goran Visnjic, is going one step further by teasing that it won't be your run-of-the-mill series swan song.

"We're doing two episodes, which were made really for fans. You would never see episodes like this on television; this is really made for fans," Visnjic told Entertainment Tonight. "We're going to close all the loops. We're going to tie all the loose ends. We're going to come back with a storm of words that our fans love and memories from previous episodes. Every day, we come in and I'm like, 'Oh my god, can I say this, because they are going to remember I said that in Episode 2!' And the writers are like, 'Yeah, great!' So it's a very unusual two-part series finale."

Visnjic portrays the central antagonist, Garcia Flynn, a rogue NSA agent who steals a time machine with the intention of changing the timestream. However, Flynn later claims that he was framed by a shady agency called Rittenhouse, which killed his family and wants to alter the space-time continuum in order to consolidate its power.

Flynn is chased throughout history by a history teacher (Abigail Spencer's Lucy Preston), a Special Forces soldier (Matt Lanter's Wyatt Logan), and a computer whiz (Malcolm Barrett's Rufus Carlin). Throughout their adventures, Lucy, Wyatt, and Rufus have borne witness to the major historical happenings like the Hindenburg disaster, the Lincoln assasination, the French and Indian War, and more.

The finale will air on NBC (the network, like SYFY WIRE, is owned by NBCUniversal) Thursday, Dec. 20.

"When I read [the finale's script], let me tell you, I had goosebumps," Visnjic added. "My god, this is going to be a really cool ride. Normally you can't do it because you don't have the luxury of completing something or finishing it or you think it's a season finale. This was done specifically for the fans, so they're going to be really happy when they see these two episodes."
